The recent history of wind energy in the U.S. have a similar effect to alternative fuel sources in general – is an idea by the oil crisis of 1970. However, have a broader history dating from the late 19th century colonization of the American West, millions windmills have been built for irrigation and livestock in order to facilitate the increasing number of farms and ranches. Soon, many are in poor condition as a source of affordable energy became more widespread and the power of the network extended its reach to rural areas to use Small wind electric systems.

The wind is used to make mechanical energy or electricity. Energy converts kinetic wind through several different processes for creating mechanical energy that can be used instead of fossil fuels. Between the two types are offered in a variety of sizes, from small units of 100 watts for each household on a much larger and wider (with a diameter of the upper blade 50 meters). These large turbines can generate 1 MW of electricity.
The most commonly used today are wind horizontal axis with three blades (15-30m in diameter) and produce about 50-350 kW of electricity. Often wind turbines are grouped together, provide in the appeal of a wind farm that provides energy to the grid.

The benefits of wind energy are numerous, including the practice environment and economy. Globally, the total kinetic energy contained in wind is more than 80 times higher than consumption power of man. One of the major drawbacks to wind energy is the natural variability of wind on a given site. In fact, there some areas with very high average wind speed, but in most places, exposure to wind is very variable. Wind energy can not be stored with a battery, or it is not. In the latter case, all energy demands can be met through both natural winds. For these reasons, can not be a viable option for some. Another disadvantage is the competition of others – Increase the value and generate profits – Land uses.
Disadvantages economic constraints include the fact that the initial investment is often higher that fossil fuel systems. The higher costs are due mainly to machinery that is involved. Other costs include the preparation of site and installation.
