I work with nuclear energy for about 30 years, I would love to have a nuclear installation or disposal of high level waste in my backyard. My family and I live in a house within 10 miles of a nuclear plant. (where I work) I have a great understanding of the risks and I am completely comfortable with a "plant in my yard." Using Chernobyl as a reason not to build, because it's like saying the Hindenburg never fly on an airliner. Nuclear energy has the lowest environmental impact of any current method of energy production per unit of energy produced. A fuel pellet the size of a pencil eraser produces the same energy of about 1 ton of coal, and if retired 2 / 3 of what remains can be recovered.
